God is calling you to His table. Will you come?

ree

Scripture: “Behold, the days are coming, declares the Lord GOD, when I will send a famine on the land—not a famine of bread or a thirst for water, but a famine of hearing the words of the Lord.” (Amos 8:11)

I love homemade bread. It reminds me of warmth, care, and love—like the bread my adopted mom used to make for me during my college days in Ohio. After Sunday church, she would send me back to campus with a loaf of her delicious bread. That bread was more than food; it was a reminder that I was cared for, even when far from home.  Jesus once said, “I am the living bread” (John 6:51). This declaration reminds us that God’s provision extends beyond physical food to something eternal and life-giving.

Yet, many are physically hungry every day. Nearly 14 million children go to bed uncertain where their next meal will come from. Millions of adults face the same reality, wrestling with the pangs of hunger night after night. But there is another hunger, one that often goes unnoticed by the world, the hunger of the soul.

In today’s fast-paced, prosperity-driven society, many are blinded and bloated with the pursuit of prosperity, yet their spirits are starving. This deeper spiritual hunger cannot be satisfied with material things. It demands spiritual nourishment—a connection with God that fills the void and revives the heart.

Unlike physical bread, spiritual nourishment can't be bought with money. It requires something far more valuable: time, devotion, and a deep intentional dive into the Word of God.  Neglecting this leads to what the Bible describes as spiritual famine. Amos 8:11 warns of a time when “a famine…not of bread nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the Lord” would come. This famine dries up our souls, leaving us parched and distant from God’s presence and our neighbors.

So, what can we do when we find ourselves in this state of spiritual starvation? This answer is simple yet profound: open the Word of God. The Bible is not just ink on paper; it is manna from heaven, ready to nourish your soul. Dive into its pages, and let the Spirit refresh you.

Jesus’ words in John 15:5 ring true: “Apart from Me, you can do nothing.” If you’re spiritually hungry, it may be because you’ve been dining at the wrong table. David invites us in Psalm 34:8 to “Taste and see that the Lord is good.” There is abundant nourishment in God’s presence, but we must position ourselves at His table to receive it. Only by abiding in Christ can we truly satisfy the deep hunger of our souls.

Are you hungry today? Not just physically, but spiritually? God’s table is always open, overflowing with everything you need to thrive. In 2025 and beyond, let us commit to overcoming spiritual famine. Open your Bible, pray fervently, and invite the Holy Spirit to rain down His nourishment upon you. In a world starving both physically and spiritually, we can find true fulfillment in the Bread of Life.

God is calling you to His table. Will you come?
